With the prices of dedicated graphics cards rapidly changing and the increasing technology of CPU integrated graphics it can be a hassle to figure out which one is best for you.

Here in this article, I will go through the pros and cons of using a PC with dedicated and integrated graphics so you can determine which option is best for you.

So, should you buy a CPU with integrated graphics or stick with a traditional dedicated graphics card?

On a budget using a CPU with integrated graphics should work just fine if you want to be able to run any new modern games, but integrated graphics usually have the bare minimum specs, so they will become outdated pretty quickly. Dedicated graphics, however, are a bit more expensive, but will allow you to play games at higher frame rates, and will last you a couple of years before needing an upgrade.

Are CPUs With Integrated Graphics Better Than Dedicated Graphics?

One thing that CPUs with integrated graphics offer is a budget option for people who want to be able to play games, and complete tasks that are graphics-heavy without the expense of using a dedicated graphics card.

You should note that even though CPUs with integrated graphics offer the option of being able to play these games without a graphics card at hand, they are usually not as powerful as your standard dedicated graphics you can get with a graphics card, so, therefore, they usually don’t produce the same performance and framerate as dedicated graphics cards.

Another thing to take in is that integrated graphics usually meet the minimum requirements to play certain games, so they end up becoming outdated pretty fast.

Integrated graphics might be a good option for you if you want to build a PC now, and are planning on upgrading later, but integrated graphics will not be a good option if you are planning on using the same PC with no upgrades in the long run.

Due to integrated graphics having lower performance they also have lower power consumption than dedicated graphics.

That means that Integrated graphics in CPUs will have lower power requirements that will allow you to not only spend less on graphics for your PC build but also spend less on the power supply, saving you some money.

You should also note that even lower-end graphics cards such as a GTX 1050 ti will still perform better than a newer Ryzen 7 5700G which is a newer CPU with integrated graphics.

Are CPUs With Integrated Graphics Better Than CPUs Without Integrated Graphics?

You might be thinking that a CPU with Integrated graphics is a better choice than a CPU without integrated graphics because well… It basically a 2 in one graphics card and CPU, but did you know that this is not the case.

Although CPUs with integrated graphics might sound better, manufacturers actually have to take away some performance from the original non-integrated CPU to allow for the new CPU to support integrated graphics.

Manufacturers usually do this by taking away 1 or more cores or getting rid of the clock speed.

Therefore, if you are looking to get the best performance out of a CPU, buying one with integrated graphics is not the way to go, but if you are not trying to buy a graphics card then go ahead and buy a CPU with integrated graphics, just know that you are sacrificing performance for functionality.

Should You Buy a CPU With Integrated Graphics?

You should really only buy a CPU with integrated graphics if you are unable to afford a good dedicated graphics card because a CPU with integrated graphics alone doesn’t offer the best performance, but they are oftentimes a lot cheaper than buying a graphics card.

Should You Buy a Pre-Built Pc With Integrated or Dedicated Graphics?

With hundreds of different pre-built computers to choose from it can often be hard to decide which one is best for you to buy.

One common question that often pops up is whether you should buy a computer with integrated graphics, or a PC with an external dedicated graphics card.

In my opinion, I think it is a lot more worth it to buy a pre-built PC with a dedicated graphics card, especially if you are gaming.

Nowadays, most programs on a computer run better with a dedicated graphics card, and even though the price difference can be a lot more expensive buying a PC with a dedicated graphics card. Let me tell you it is very well worth your money.

Gaming Pc That is Using Integrated Graphics

Even if you don’t have a really expensive budget I would recommend downgrading other parts of your computer such as the CPU or motherboard in order to get a high-performing graphics card.

The reason for this is because your graphics card is the most important part of your PC, and unless you are strictly using your computer for a job that requires a very powerful CPU you should focus most of your budget on a really good graphics card.

For example: If you are thinking of buying a computer that has an AMD Ryzen 7 5700G with integrated graphics, it is recommended that you downgrade your CPU to something like a Ryzen 5 or even a Ryzen 3 in order to afford a good graphics card such as an RTX 3060 ti.

Can You Run Your Computer Without Integrated or Dedicated Graphics?

No, You cannot run your computer without integrated or dedicated graphics. The reason for this is that without these you won’t be able to display graphics on your screen, therefore, you will be stuck with a black screen until you get either integrated or dedicated graphics to display things on your screen.
